Canandaigua is the Iroquois word for "chosen spot" and the area is truly blessed with spectacular scenery. The area is renowned for its wineries, fruits and vegetables. We enjoy water sports in the spring and summer, snow sports in the winter and beautiful fall foliage.
Canandaigua is located in Ontario County 25 miles SE of Rochester between Geneva and Bloomfield along Highway 20. The city stands on the northern shore of the lake that bears its name. [back]
Town of Canandaigua
Canandaigua, formed in 1789, is the central town of the county lying upon the westen and northern shores of Canandaigua Lake. The surface is hilly in the south but level or gently rolling in the north. The highest summits are about 600 feet above the lake. Canandaigua Outlet, Beaver Creek, and Stevens Brook are the principal streams. [back]
