Town of Naples
Naples was formed in 1789. It is the extreme s. town of the co. The surface consists of a hilly and elevated upland, broken by the narrow and deep valleys of Canandaigua and Honeoye Inlets and Grindstone Creek. The summits of the hills are 600 to 1000 feet above the surface of the lake and 1300 to 1700 feet above tide. Their declivities bordering on the streams are generally very steep. High Point and Hatch Hill are the highest summits.
Naples is located in Ontario County 18 miles S of Canandaigua near the southern end of Canandaigua Lake between Woodville and Ingleside along Highway 21 near Bristol Mountain Ski Area. Near the southern end of Canandaigua Lake, Naples is in the vicinity of three scenic glens; Parrish, Tannery and Grimes, with many waterfalls. Rainbow trout fishing is popular. Naples is part of the Rochester, New York metro area. Its wineries, Fall Grape Festival and mountainous terrain make Naples worthy of the title: The Switzerland of New York State. [back]
